Basketball: Granby Youth Recreational Basketball Program for 3rd-8th Graders
NOW is the time to register for the Winter Youth Recreational Basketball Program: Grades 3-8
Granby Youth Basketball League GOALS OF THE PROGRAM: To provide a positive recreational basketball program for youths in grades 3-8. To instruct the players in the rules of the game. To develop individual skills. To foster teamwork and proper sportsmanlike attitudes. To establish a foundation of basics for future support of the High School programs. To create an opportunity for children to be with their friends and to make new friends. To have FUN!

Registrations received beginning October 31st will be $215. Registration ends 11/13. Any registrations received after 11/13 will be assessed an additional $25 late fee.*
*Late registrants accepted based on availability.
Each child will need their own ball with their name on it.
BALL SIZES: Grades 3-6 (boys & girls) and 7-8 (girls): 28.5
Grades 7-8 (boys): 29.5
*New England Officiating handles our game officials. There will be one adult certified ref and one youth ref for each game.
Grades 3rd - 8th Grade: These divisions are separate boys and girls teams. These divisions get one practice per week and one game on Saturdays. Meets January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13, 20, 27. March 6th is a make up date if needed. Our games are against teams from the East Granby, and Suffield Park & Recreation Departments, Hartland, and the YMCA. The game schedule will be available mid December. Practices will begin the week of December 7th and are held during the week at either Kelly Lane School or the Middle School. Practices dates/times will be determined based on the coaches availability. Game times could run as early as 8am-3pm on Saturdays with our home games played at Granby High School. PLEASE NOTE: The days/times of practices depends on our volunteer coaches' own schedules. We will not have that information until coaches are selected and teams are drafted on Nov 19th. We do not take special team request placement.
NOTE: Games or practices canceled due to “no school days”, weather conditions and/or last minute school scheduling conflicts may be rescheduled dependent on coach and facility availability. White-soled indoor gym sneakers are mandatory; jewelry of any kind is not allowed during practices & games, including newly pierced earrings.
This league is dependent upon volunteer coaches. PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME! Coaches will need to be at assessments for their age group to review player skills, etc.
Volunteer Coaches:This program needs volunteers to coach the teams. Coaches will be required to do a background check which is initiated through the Recreation Dept. If you are interested in being a head or assistant coach, please email Terri Ziemnicki at tziemnicki@granby-ct.gov.
VERY IMPORTANT: TEAM DRAFT INFO: The Draft is for HEAD COACHES only. All HEAD coaches or a representative must be present at the draft. No players. This is a draft...This is the day teams will be made. DRAFT DATE: Thursday, Nov 19th Gathering Room at the Granby Recreation Dept.
Draft times: 6pm - 2nd Grade
7pm - 3rd/4th Grade
8pm - 5th/6th Grade & 7th/8th Grade
IMPORTANT: This year we will also be doing assessments on the players prior to the coaches meeting on 11/19. Each child registered should make every attempt to attend their dedicated assessment date. You do NOT have to register for the assessments.
ASSESSMENT DATES: Monday, Nov 16: Grades 3 & 4 boys and girls
Tuesday, Nov 17: Grades 5 & 6 boys and girls
Wednesday, Nov 18: Grades 7 & 8 boys and girls
