Beekeeping
Have you been thinking about starting a new hobby?  Bee Keeping might just "bee" what you’re looking for!  Bee keeping is a quite, peaceful experience where you and your honey bees learn to work with each other and the end result is so rewarding.  Granby Resident, Deb Beal will share her knowledge about all the things she has learned along the way about backyard bee keeping.
Beekeeping
In this first class/session we’ll cover the 5 How’s… and much more.

   How do I get started?
How do I determine the location/placement of the hive?
   How much time is required?
How costly is the start-up and maintenance?
   How/Where do I get bees?

I’ll explain in simple terms, and share my experience of what has or hasn't worked for me.

We’ll review and outline: types of queens, methods of acquiring the bees, how to prepare for the arrival of the bees, equipment you’ll need, general care and maintenance, seasonal check list and what to expect the first year.

In future classes, we’ll take a closer look at what signs to watch for. Behavior in and around the hive. Bees are very smart. They are constantly communicating with each other and you can read them by observing their behavior. We’ll cover swarms.  Are they a sign of good or bad? Knowing when to harvest your honey. How the hive responds to nectar flow. Extraction process including options for reusing the frames, cleaning, and a list of items I have successfully produced from the wax.

Please join us and explore the amazing Honey Bee.
